Privacy Policy

I adhere to HIPAA guidelines for all clients and will require that I have signed releases from them prior to discussing their case with other professionals on their team of care providers.

What is HIPAA? HIPAA was introduced in 1996, primarily to improve the health insurance system and simplify the administration of health care, but it has since been expanded considerably. Now HIPAA covers patient privacy, uses and disclosures of health data, and data security. There are four key aspects of HIPAA: privacy of health information, security of health data, notification of breaches of medical records, and the right to obtain copies of healthcare data.

How Does HIPAA Benefit Patients? HIPAA is important because it helps to ensure that any information disclosed to healthcare providers and health plans, or information that is created by them, transmitted, or stored by them, is subject to strict security controls. Patients are also given control over to whom their information is released and with whom it is shared. HIPAA is also important for patients who want to take a more active role in their health care and want to obtain copies of their health information. Any organization, including those that manage patient information, can make errors when recording complex data. HIPAA provides the ability for patients to obtain copies of their health records, in order for them to check for errors and ensure that any mistakes are corrected.
